Today, Monday, 6/5/2024, the President of the Federal Supreme Court, Judge Jassim Mohammed Abboud, received the Ambassador of the United States of America in Baghdad, Mrs. Elena Romanowski, at the headquarters of the Federal Supreme Court in Baghdad.
The President of the Federal Supreme Court welcomed the Ambassador of the United States of America in Baghdad and her accompanying delegation, and during the meeting, they stressed the keenness of the Federal Supreme Court to establish bilateral relations with international constitutional courts to exchange legal expertise in the field of constitutional justice to develop it and benefit from the accumulated experiences of constitutional courts in a way that contributes to the correct democratic construction and the preservation of public and private rights and freedoms. Relations and provide cooperation in various fields and emphasize the importance of strengthening them for a safe and prosperous Iraq and building constitutional institutions properly and preserving the Iraqi constitution and consolidating the principles through which it is possible to build a parliamentary representative democratic system and that the constitution is the guarantor of the unity of Iraq and emphasizing the correct application of the constitution with regard to the financial and administrative powers of the governorates that are not organized in a region in accordance with what was stated in Article (122 / 2nd) of the constitution and what was stated in Article (121 / first), which granted the authorities of the regions the right to Exercise of legislative, executive and judicial authorities in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution based on the exclusive competences of the federal authorities.
The metting discussed the issue of elections for the Kurdistan Regional Parliament of Iraq and the need to find all the necessary solutions, not to conduct them, in order to lead to fair elections and ensure effective participation by all.
The US ambassador explained that her country seeks to build strong relations with the Iraqi side at various levels, especially in the field of constitutional justice, and praised the independence of the Iraqi judiciary and the role of the Federal Supreme Court in consolidating constitutional and democratic principles to ensure building a parliamentary system based on the rule of law.
