The President of the Federal Supreme Court receives the British Ambassador
The President of the Federal Supreme Court, Judge Jassim Mohammed Aboud, received in his office on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, the British Ambassador Mr. Irfan Siddique and the accompanying delegation at the headquarters of the Federal Supreme Court.
During the meeting, the necessity of enhancing mutual cooperation in all fields between the Republic of Iraq and the United Kingdom was addressed, especially in the field of constitutional judiciary.
The President of the Court confirmed that despite the difficulties Iraq is facing, the Constitution of the Republic of Iraq of 2005, as a document of the Iraqi people that cannot be violated for any reason, lays down the fundamental principles for the proper construction of democracy in order to achieve a people's democracy and to realize the principle of the rule of law and the peaceful transfer of power in accordance with Articles 6 and 5 of the Constitution. This is particularly significant as Iraq is preparing to conduct general elections for the upcoming parliamentary term, and the measure of the elections' success depends on the actual participation rate of the people. The Constitution guarantees the public and private rights and freedoms of the Iraqi people, including the right to vote, elect, and be elected, and prohibits any infringement on these constitutional rights or any influence on them from any party for any reason, which leads to the establishment of a strong civil state based on national identity, overcoming sectarian, ethnic, and interest-based quotas. Moreover, the Constitution mandates the preservation of public funds and the prohibition of any misuse of these funds as stated in Article 27, considering the sanctity of public money, which it is the duty of every citizen to protect, and it is forbidden to use these funds for illegal purposes.
The British ambassador affirmed that his country is keen to cooperate with the State of Iraq in all fields, including collaboration to achieve those constitutional objectives of building a proper democracy, preserving public funds, and the rule of law.
